Steps to
becoming a
freemason

The term TB1ASK1 simply means to be a mason ask a mason.  The easiest way to gain information and entrance to the fraternity is to simply ask a friend or family member that you know is a mason.  You can also….
  • Apply to a lodge

    You can contact a lodge directly or request information to get connected with one. If there are multiple lodges in your area, you can visit a few to find the right fit. 

     
  • Meet the requirements

    You must meet the following basic qualifications:

    • Be a man 
       
    • Be of lawful age 
       
    • Believe in a supreme being 
       
    • Be free-born 
       
    • Be joining of your own free will 
       
    • Be of good moral character 
       
    • Be recommended by at least two existing Freemasons from the lodge you’re joining 
       
  • Pay fees

    Each lodge sets its own fees, but they are usually between $100 and $300. There is also an initiation fee for each of the three degrees in Masonry. 

     
  • Complete degree work

    The time it takes to become a Freemason can range from six weeks to six months. During this time, you may be asked to attend lodge meetings or social events. 

     
Freemasonry is religious in nature, but it doesn’t subscribe to any specific orthodoxy.
