The history of Freemasonry can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when stonemasons’ guilds regulated stonemasons’ qualifications and interactions with clients and authorities. As the number of stonemasons decreased, some lodges began accepting honorary members, known as “speculative” members. In the 18th century, these lodges joined together to form the first Grand Lodge, an association that held rituals and ceremonies and inducted new members.
Freemasonry is a non profit organization that donates time, money, and other resources to a vast number of local and state wide charities.
